22 Teams Went Under in 2022

Looking through the 2022 data, the most eye-opening trend is that 22 teams in the NFL saw O/U records that favored the UNDER. Thursday Night Football is definitely a factor, as the game has shown many UNDERS hit in recent years due to the shortened week and sloppy play.

The remaining 10 teams were split, with only five NFL teams seeing an O/U record that favored the OVER and five other teams that were dead even in point total record - also known as a PUSH. Below are the teams with the most likely OVER and UNDER trends entering 2023.

New York Jets Point Total Trends

The Jets might see an uptick in OVER games this season, as they acquired Aaron Rodgers from Green Bay to run the quarterback position. Rodgers is older however, and he wasn't exactly 'lights out' in 2022. It's unclear how oddsmakers will value the Jets point total this season with the addition of Rodgers, but if they add points to give the benefit of the doubt to Rogers then going UNDER with the Jets might not be a bad play again in 2023.

2022 O/U Record: 5-12

Tennessee Titans Point Total Trends

If the quarterback situation stays the same or worsens (somehow), then Tennessee might be another top pick to go UNDER in 2023 more times than not. This is an offense built around Derrick Henry running the ball, which kills clock and overall points. Add that with the disastrous quarterback situation and the inability to replace A.J. Brown at wide receiver, it seems Tennessee might be poised for another season of UNDERS hitting.

2022 O/U Record: 5-12

Washington Commanders Point Total Trends

Another team with quarterback issues in 2022 saw more games go UNDER than OVER. The Commanders went through many different quarterbacks in 2022, but the departure of Carson Wentz isn't a terrible thing for those going against the grain here. This is still a defensive-first team under Ron Rivera, so it makes sense to see the UNDERS hit like hot cakes in 2022. With a similar makeup in 2023, Washington should once again see more UNDERS hit than OVERS.

2022 O/U Record: 5-11-1

Minnesota Vikings Point Total Trends

Finally, we have a team that goes OVER more times than not. In fact, Minnesota is the only team that favors the OVER on this list. The Vikings offense might be a bit different this year with the departure of Dalvin Cook. The Cousins-Jefferson connection is one of the best in the NFL, and the Vikings offense is better than any team's defense in that division. The OVERS make sense for Minnesota, who also has defensive issues which sees the opponent score pretty consistently.

2022 O/U Record: 12-6

New Orleans Saints Point Total Trends

The Saints are the trickiest team to consider on this list, mainly because of the massive upgrade at quarterback by adding Derek Carr. The Saints were a top UNDER team due to their uncertain quarterback play along with a pretty stout defense. The addition of Derek Carr makes the Saints the one team on this list that might go against it's 2022 total production. Of all the teams listed, the Saints going UNDER more times than not in 2023 has little-to-no conviction behind it from our point of view.

2022 O/U Record: 6-11

Denver Broncos Point Total Trends

There is little conviction in Denver going UNDER a lot in 2023, but the defense in Denver is one to merit UNDER takers - especially at home where the air is thin and opposing offenses can struggle with fatigue. However, Sean Payton is now in town and paired with Russell Wilson - so the offense should take a massive step forward. It seems that riding the Broncos (pun intended) UNDER at home is the smart take for their point totals this season, but keep in mind the offense should score a ton of more points than they did a season ago.

2022 O/U Record: 6-11

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Point Total Trends

The Bucs should go UNDER a ton in 2023, as they did in 2022. The quarterback situation is a huge question mark, and the defense is still fearsome until further notice. Tampa's concern on offense is a main reason the UNDER should actually hit more times in 2023 than it did in 2022. With many questions at the quarterback position, it's hard to see Tampa Bay suddenly turning into OVER machines in 2023. Consider Tampa a top UNDER take in 2023.

2022 O/U Record: 6-12
